I followed activism to librarianship. Inspired by the librarians who took a stand against the USA PATRIOT Act of 2001, I traded community organizing for library school, excited to have found a career that combined literature and social justice. I quickly fell in love with children’s literature and youth services, and have worked in public library youth services since 2005, when I began my career at the Chicago Public Library.
Currently, I work as the Children’s Collection Management Librarian for the Oakland Public Library.
I have a perpetual need to learn, and lately have been applying that to web design, project management, and the Mam language and community within Oakland.
