I love unicorns, glitter, dogs, data, talking UX strategy, Excel, Instagram, going into the guts of processes and looking for inefficiencies, social justice in librarianship, writing and editing content, and peanut butter.

Currently, I work as the Children’s Collection Management Librarian for the Oakland Public Library. I use principles of content strategy and project management to achieve great results–strategizing about content allows me to communicate effectively across an organization, and my project management skills allow me to set and meet deadlines and be transparent about them with other staff.

I’m always learning something new. Current projects: SQL, R, more Excel (always more Excel!), and the Mam language and community in Oakland.

I followed activism to librarianship. Inspired by the librarians who took a stand against the USA PATRIOT Act of 2001, I traded community organizing for library school, excited to have found a career that combined literature and social justice. I quickly fell in love with children’s literature and youth services, and have worked in public library youth services since 2005, when I began my career at the Chicago Public Library.

Outside of work, I like to draw comics, read (of course), eat popcorn, and spend time with my husband and our dog and three cats (yup, it’s too many).
