From blog posts to training documentation, I’m a skilled writer and enjoy applying my talent to librarianship.
As Children’s Collection Management Librarian for the Oakland Public Library, I’ve found writing essential to training and communicating with branch children’s librarians, whom I train and support in collection management, but rarely see in person. In addition to writing documentation, I’ve strategized about the most efficient ways to share training documents with staff, which has led me to develop a staff blog for shared searchable documentation and to learn Drupal 8 in preparation for creating a permanent staff knowledge base.
My blog posts for the Oakland Public Library are creative and inflected with my personality. I recommend books I love, reference pop culture, and maintain a focus on diversity in children’s literature.
The dropdown menu above will lead you to some examples of my writing: instructional writing, in which I document training procedures; staff challenges, meant to inspire front line staff while they learn about the resources we offer; blog posts; and my column on diverse indie kids’ books for School Library Journal.
